The welcome
Welcome to my section of the blog. I hope you find it interesting, particularly what I write. I am aware of the competition in the blogosphere – I can only hope you enjoy my blog enough to give it a place on your favourites bar.
Right now
The final year of my public relations degree at Sunderland university is near. I have only a few months left of my summer to ‘go crazy,’ as some students may put it. Unfortunately, I rent a fairly expensive apartment with my girlfriend which takes up most of my monthly income. On the plus-side, this gives me time to read, write and learn about those things that I am interested in – I’m talking social media; Newcastle United; news and current affairs.
The future
Putting real dreams aside, (astronaut, football player, rock star), I would love to work in social media. I spend a lot of time using it, I read a lot about it and I think it will continue to develop as an integral part of public relations. Although Newcastle is an amazing city, I would like to venture beyond its greatness. My girlfriend loves unrealistic American TV programs like, The Hills, so if she has her way, my future lies in America.
Things I’m proud of
I have recently had an article published in one of the leading online student magazines, Behind The Spin. It became the most commented on article they have had.
Me
Blogs should be personal so I have added a picture – this is from a recent holiday in Orlando, Florida (Disney Land) and that little create in my hand is E.T.
Enjoy the blog guys 🙂
If you would like to leave any personal comments to me please do below.
what a nice welcome 🙂 couldn’t work out who was who in the pic though!
I agree I would like to work in Social Media in the future but it is important to remember its only one aspect of the big picture and yet very important!
I look forward to discussing this later on in our blogs, whether Social Media actually has a huge affect on the overall outcome and whether the amount of time and effort to maintain and monitor SM if it is all worth it in the long run? and what companies can beneift from using SM while others may suffer from the consequences!
Glad we have finally kick started this blog! and looking forward to some discussions next week 🙂
great stuff Stephen – tell me about life at Sunderland Uni – drove past the other day whilst touring Unis with my son, he is due to start somewhere September 2011 when he makes his mind up
Hello Jane, I have found Sunderland to be a good university. All of the PC’s and other equipment there is new and pretty much some of the best stuff you can get.
My degree is in PR and the classes are quite small which means it’s more personal and you get more attention which is good.
I have found my degree to be quite practical as well as theoretical. I worked a month for a social media agency in Newcastle as well as writing a newsletter for a school in Prudhoe (a town west of Newcastle).
There are good library facilities and quiet spaces to read in and some of the tutors will go out their way to help if your stuck with something.
I don’t have any other university experience to compare it to but I have enjoyed my own here at Sunderland.
thnaks for that…enjoy the rest of your summer in that expensive flat!!!
Will do ha ha. Hope to hear from you again on this blog 🙂
Hey Stephen, had a agreat visit to Sunderland today, tried to chat to your lecturers but they were busy so focussed on the purpose of the day for my som to look round!
cheers Jane
I thought they might have stopped for a few minutes. Sometimes they can be very busy I guess.
Glad you liked it and hope you’re enjoying the blog.
I’m finished after this coming year so I’ll be hoping to get a job quickly 🙂
